EAD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young people living with type 1 diabetes, as well as their families and surroundings, to help them become self-sufficient in managing their condition and seamlessly integrate into daily life. Led by a team of 8 employees equivalent to 5.6 full-time equivalents, the organization also benefits from the support of 50 volunteers. Its mission is to provide therapeutic education programs for young people and training for families, school, extracurricular, and health professionals. It also informs the general public about childhood diabetes, particularly the signs of disease onset.
The EAD program aims to promote therapeutic education for young people with type 1 diabetes through educational days and stays. Each year, the project supports 450 children through 25 educational days for groups of 12 to 15 children and 10 stays of 3 to 5 days for groups of 15 adolescents. Activities include nutrition workshops, sessions on managing physical activity, and sharing moments to foster social integration. The project directly benefits these young people and indirectly their families and surroundings, representing over 1,000 people. The project’s sustainability is ensured by the ongoing evolution of EAD’s actions, which have adapted over 17 years to the needs of young people and their surroundings, and by the inauguration of the first Children’s Diabetes House in France in Toulouse in September 2024, offering a resourceful and friendly place.
